Summary

Reacher never backs down from a problem。

And he's about to find a big one, on a deserted road in Arizona, where a car has crashed into the only tree for miles around。

Minutes later, Reacher is heading into town。 To introduce himself to the shadowy crew who made it happen。

Their boss has a terrifying reputation and the stakes are high。 Just to get in and meet him, Reacher is going to have to achieve the impossible。

To get answers will be even harder。 There are people in this hostile, empty place who would rather die, than reveal their secrets。

But then, if Reacher is coming after you, you might be better off dead。

Good overall plot with multiple subplots adding complexity。

Vonda Bayley

Good book but I can tell that Andrew wrote more of this book。 True to the character but also just a bit off。

Jan

Next in the Reacher series。 Better than the last novel。 The narrator seems to read every sentence like it is a question。

Not the best Reacher book I've ever read。 I never really became invested in the characters in this one。 It seemed that almost until the end the author was over describing Reacher's surroundings and making the whole book into a low-speed chase。 The last book that was co-written with his brother was better。 Not the best Reacher book I've ever read。 I never really became invested in the characters in this one。 It seemed that almost until the end the author was over describing Reacher's surroundings and making the whole book into a low-speed chase。 The last book that was co-written with his brother was better。 。。。more

too longThere was too much descriptive information about trite things like the carpeting in each room or other background things that had no pertinence to the story。 It was just filler

Rob

Meh。 Not great。 Written in the first person??? Just wrong。

Not too much new but worth reading。

Not the strongest Reacher novel (in my humble opinion)。

I have read and enjoyed most of Lee Child's books but found this one to be too much。 All of the books have detailed descriptions of how Reacher wounds and ultimately kills his foes yet this one contained too much detail, too much violence, too much bravado and not enough of the calculated moves that we are used to。 The plot was also too much - it seemed to go on and on - too much of everything except the good story we are used to。I finished the book but with little enthusiasm and it wasn't until I have read and enjoyed most of Lee Child's books but found this one to be too much。 All of the books have detailed descriptions of how Reacher wounds and ultimately kills his foes yet this one contained too much detail, too much violence, too much bravado and not enough of the calculated moves that we are used to。 The plot was also too much - it seemed to go on and on - too much of everything except the good story we are used to。I finished the book but with little enthusiasm and it wasn't until I read some of the reviews here that I realized that this book was written in partnership with Lee and his brother。 Maybe that's why the novel felt different than a usual Jack Reacher novel。 。。。more

Classic Reacher page turner。 Only slightly noticed a few incongruities with the historical “Lee” Reacher。 Suspect the formula is sufficiently tried and tested that Andrew will be able to continue the run。

Linda Koch

Terrific!

Naima Holloway

Solid book but not amongst his best in my opinion。Plot a bit of a stretch。How does Reacher keep getting himself into all these predicaments?

This is not the Reacher I have grown to like。 I struggled to get through the mundane descriptions of rooms。 The story line didn't have any excitement。 I won't bore you with the details of what the author was trying to convey。To make a long story short I was disappointed。 This is not the Reacher I have grown to like。 I struggled to get through the mundane descriptions of rooms。 The story line didn't have any excitement。 I won't bore you with the details of what the author was trying to convey。To make a long story short I was disappointed。 。。。more

I got a little lost in the winding streets and twisting tunnels。 Typical Reacher book except he didn’t sleep with the “woman in distress”。

This was a very disappointing wait。 Yes, Lee Child may have been involved, but it was clear from the narrative that this was not the Lee Child of earlier Reacher books。 His brother Andrew just cannot write the books in the same way。 I also found the story-line rather boring 。 The descriptions of the sewer tunnels went on for ages and was dreadfully dull。 Reacher has become too violent of late and killing without a second thought。 The Reacher of old was not like this。 For the first time since sta This was a very disappointing wait。 Yes, Lee Child may have been involved, but it was clear from the narrative that this was not the Lee Child of earlier Reacher books。 His brother Andrew just cannot write the books in the same way。 I also found the story-line rather boring 。 The descriptions of the sewer tunnels went on for ages and was dreadfully dull。 Reacher has become too violent of late and killing without a second thought。 The Reacher of old was not like this。 For the first time since starting to read Reacher all those years ago, I will not be rushing to reach volume #27。 Bring back Lee Child or retire Reacher off with a love interest。 。。。more

For The Love of books

I was excited for the next Jack Reacher story, I was sadly disappointed。 I skipped lots of the middle onwards just to get to the end。 The story seemed to have similarities to other Reacher stories。 I’m the end I didn’t actually care about the conclusion。 Normally I like Child’s writing find it exciting and can’t wait to see why happens next。 Thus reminded me of another story within the series with underground bunkers。 I don’t know if it is because he was writing alongside Andrew Child or if I’m I was excited for the next Jack Reacher story, I was sadly disappointed。 I skipped lots of the middle onwards just to get to the end。 The story seemed to have similarities to other Reacher stories。 I’m the end I didn’t actually care about the conclusion。 Normally I like Child’s writing find it exciting and can’t wait to see why happens next。 Thus reminded me of another story within the series with underground bunkers。 I don’t know if it is because he was writing alongside Andrew Child or if I’m bored of the Reacher series。 I guess time will tell 。。。more

Enjoyed the first Child brothers collaboration but this one is not one of the best Reacher books。 Hopefully just a blip in form。

It’s jack reqcher!A little more unbelievable than the last, but still satisfying and a little terrifying。

Michael Dorsher

The writing in this Reacher book is so off the mark that he’s not the same character。 He spends more time guessing about what might happen, what would happen, what probably happened versus being the decisive protagonist of the series。 Skip this one, unless you want to see how bad it can really be。Even the fight scenes are dull and plodding。 The story is fine, but the prose here is a slog。Upside: its the shortest of the series。

I really struggled with this one 。 。 。 it normally takes me a couple of days to read a Jack Reacher novel, but this one took me 13。 I've read every book in the series, some more than once, but out of those 26 I've never found it a hard slog。Difficult to actually pin point why, but it just doesn't feel like a Lee Child/Jack Reacher story。 The normal shine is missing and I don't feel inclined to find out what that is, so I think this is the last one, as I wasn't overly impressed with The Sentinel I really struggled with this one 。 。 。 it normally takes me a couple of days to read a Jack Reacher novel, but this one took me 13。 I've read every book in the series, some more than once, but out of those 26 I've never found it a hard slog。Difficult to actually pin point why, but it just doesn't feel like a Lee Child/Jack Reacher story。 The normal shine is missing and I don't feel inclined to find out what that is, so I think this is the last one, as I wasn't overly impressed with The Sentinel either。Still, 24 successful reads has to be some kind of a record and nothing lasts forever, so thanks Lee and Jack for all the countless hours of great entertainment。 。。。more

I'm sorry, but this is the worst Reacher book yet。 Before Lee Child bailed they were becoming more formulaic- but they were readable。This one, however, was reasonably predictable, A to B to C。 The early Reachers were, in some way so Unbelievable they were Believable。 This one just fell flat。 It felt rushed together, and badly edited (I had to re-read some of it as it didn't make sense)。I think I'm finally done with this series。 I'm sorry, but this is the worst Reacher book yet。 Before Lee Child bailed they were becoming more formulaic- but they were readable。This one, however, was reasonably predictable, A to B to C。 The early Reachers were, in some way so Unbelievable they were Believable。 This one just fell flat。 It felt rushed together, and badly edited (I had to re-read some of it as it didn't make sense)。I think I'm finally done with this series。 。。。more
